Residing in Thailand on a Marriage Visa
Foreign nationals married to Thai nationals are eligible for one-year, renewable visas to remain in Thailand with their spouses and family.
In order to apply for such a visa, the foreigner must enter Thailand with a Non-Immigrant "O" visa obtainable at any Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad. The applicant must also show the original or a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate, and should have with him/her the address of the residence in Thailand where the spouses will live.
Financial Requirements for obtaining a Thai Marriage Visa
Furthermore, the applicant must also demonstrate a Thai bank account with a current balance exceeding THB 400,000.- (USD 10,960.-). This amount is intended to cover the living expenses of the couple in the coming year.
The process will require an application form and supporting documents be submitted to the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok. Approval time is usually one month. The visa is renewable at the end of the first year, without difficulty.
